Happy New Year 2007!

Happy New Year! What a fantastic musical year 2006 has been, and I imagine 2007 will bring on more of the same!

I have received national attention for my debut children's CD, "Hot Air Balloon," released in Januiary 2006. I won three national awards in 2006 for "Hot Air Balloon": a Parents' Choice Foundation Silver Award, a National Association of Parenting Publications (NAPPA) Honors Award, and an iParenting Media Award for Excellent Products of 2006.

I also received a nice amount of media attention, including a full page spread in the Boston Globe Sunday Magazine, positive reviews in Family Fun Magazine and Parenting Magazine, and many more great reviews. Please check back to this website soon for press quotes that are being added.

I have enjoyed large and enthusiastic turnouts for special performances around the Boston area - solo, in a duo with Sharon Simon, and with my full band (bass, percussion, guitar, banjo, vocals).

And I also now regularly perform for birthday parties and special events (solo, duo or larger group), so if you're interested, please email me at vanessa@vanessatrien.com or call (617) 277-0687 for rates and details.

Goals for 2007: Begin recording the next CD, and make a music DVD! I'll keep you posted about their developments.

Thank you for all your support, and I hope to see you soon at a show!

Up Up and Away! "Hot Air Balloon" hot off the presses and a brand new website!!
Tue, Nov. 22 2005
Hi everyone! Welcome to my newly designed website! I hope you'll enjoy poking around, listening to MP3 samples of songs, and perhaps even buying a CD (or two or three, or ten...)! The new website look, designed by Kirsten Hammann, marks the release of my debut children's CD, "Hot Air Balloon!" I'm very proud of this CD, and it includes 11 tracks of original songs, fully produced, representing a wide variety of musical styles, from blues to bluegrass, pop to calypso. I started this CD when I learned I was pregnant, and finished it when Ellis was 10 months old. I had two dreams come true in one year: First, to have a beautiful healthy baby, and secondly, to complete a project I had been wanting to do for years! I collaborated with my friend and hero Neale Eckstein of Fox Run Studio to make this CD, and we made a great team! He helped to gather a huge assortment of amazing musicians, many well-respected in the folk music community (including Greg Greenway, John McVey, Stephanie Corby, Eric Schwartz, Groovelily, Sean Staples, Jeff St. Pierre, Liz Carlisle and many more), who contributed their talents to this recording. Then my dear friend and neighbor Laura Baltzell did me the honor of painting four beautiful paintings to be used for the CD artwork, while my friend Rob Levine put it all together to make a bright, fun design with a 20-page booklet. Check out the "shop now" page to learn more about Laura and how you can decorate your home with matted digital prints of the paintings! While I have absolutely loved performing as an acoustic folk singer-songwriter for years and will hopefully continue to do so now and then, I have always loved teaching and making music with kids. Now I get a chance to really focus on it with renewed passion and energy, and make it a more central part of my work and life. I feel like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly! Thanks for visiting my website! I would love to hear your comments and feedback, so please feel free to email me any time at vanessa@vanessatrien.com. Happy music-making! Vanessa
